These tips are short, so here's three for the price of one!
G is for open G, one of our first notes! H is for HAIRLINE: remember only a hairline of the mouthpiece to be seen above the reed as you look at the reed side. I is for INSTRUCTIONS: always listen carefully to instructions from your teacher. Another fun clarinet youtube. Talk about extremes! E is for EMBOUCHURE! This fancy French word refers to the way you hold your mouth around the mouthpiece: 1) lower lip over bottom teeth 2) firm corners of mouth 3) chin stretched downward 4) top of mouthpiece directly on upper teeth 5) think: “whee!” then “too!”, seal mouth/lips around mouthpiece. Be sure to keep chin flat. DO NOT puff your cheeks. Note the angle of clarinet and amount of mouthpiece in mouth as well. Questions? Ask away!
